This gorgeous black, cast-iron fireplace insert resides in one of our properties and is a testament to the originality and flavor we seek to instill in each one of our rental units. Besides helping to contribute to the heating system of the house, the fireplace, brickwork and iron insert just look great, don’t you think?

Spring has sprung and we’re always really excited about his time of the year! Why, you ask? Because unlike other additions or remodeling efforts we make at KentSuites to keep our cool lofts and Victorian apartments looking special and out-of- the-ordinary, landscaping is a really enjoyable and natural activity that also contributes to our Sustainability Efforts in the Kent region.

Each spring we search-out great examples of flora –normally perennials – and plant them to add beauty and style to all our properties. It’s our way of beautifying our unique Kent apartments while also making every neighborhood and city street where we are located look more alive and healthy. Plus, every plant that is “plugged into” the Earth helps to make fresh oxygen for every living thing on Earth to breathe – talk about return on investment, huh?  In case you’re wondering what the metal arch is in the photograph, the Kent State Downtown Art Gallery used to exist at our property. How about that – one of our properties has been a horse stable, an art gallery, a residential home, and now a metaphysics retreat space. We love diversity!!

We hope our tenants and neighbors love the scenery as much as we do!

Wow it’s been a long time coming!  Our town now has some fantastic options for housing.  Sure we still have a ways to go, like Tiny Homes and other forms of housing that impact our environment in a way that nurtures vs takes.  This is one of our goals moving forward, being a vehicle for positive change.  With that, change does not come for free unfortunately.  

As an example, to set an array of solar panels on a building in Ohio is not cost effective at this juncture.  One of the roadblocks is the way the buy back program works.  If any unit goes over the amount it consumes (the panels produce more than what is being consumed) that unit is bumped off the program!  This is one example of many I could site.

So in a nutshell, it takes a village to affect change.  In other words, everyone needs to be working in their respective fields with a common goal of making our world a better place.  In the above example, having a passionate attorneys and politicians working to affect policy changes makes it possible for systems that allow the world to be eco-friendly.

We love this image because its a picture -perfect (no pun intended) example of our philosophy at KentSuites about sustainability and sustainable landscaping.
This beautiful arboreal vine (Concord grape vine to be specific) would have been cut and removed from most apartment buildings because it is "in the way." Yet from another perspective, it's gorgeous and adds character to the building so why remove it at all? We think it should keep growing because it has the right to live also and it's not harming the building in any way. Indeed, the tenants who have lived in this downtown Kent apartment over the years have enjoyed the vine and appreciate how we have acted to preserve it. 
Nature should always be maintained in conjunction with architecture if at all possible. The famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright thought the same thing too, as you'll see if you ever get to visit the master architect's breathtaking home Fallingwater in Pennsylvania.
Our numerous unique lofts and Victorian apartments in the heart of Kent aren't on the scale of Mr. Wright's classic creation, but we're working on it and our tenants love their spaces! Thanks for visiting The KentSuites!

It’s been the philosophy at KentSuites for many years to make each of our rental units a one-of-a-kind living experience for the many adult professionals, working folk and graduate students who make our spaces their homes. We love knowing that our rental properties in the downtown Kent area are special and truly enjoyable places to reside, love, learn and recharge within.

This photo shows some nice details in one of the bathrooms at one of our properties. Notice the marble counter and beautiful glass sink basin – a nice step-up from the basic bathrooms you’ll find in many Kent apartment rentals catering to college students. Now notice the elegant ceramic details behind the sink – slight floral print patterns adorn the white ceramic tiles to add touches of grace and style. You may even be able to discern the beautiful wodwork in this bathroom from this photograph. The tiles are genuine Mexican tile accents from … you guessed it…Mexico! And there’s a sunken tub in this featured bathroom also. A lot of luxury above the streets of downtown Kent for sure!

This oaken, mirored-fireplace mantle with beautiful polished wood is just another example of the fine interior décor that is evident through all of KentSuite’s unique and spacious downtown Kent apartments. A lot of love and care goes into the details we add to our Kent, Ohio loft apartments and that’s because as creative and intelligent folks ourselves, we want to express the many aspects of living in an urban environment that can make the experience glorious.
Sure, living by coffeeshops and restaraunts and saloons
and boutiques has commercial value if you love to shop
or visit with friends while out and about, but there’s more to it then just that. For instance, people who live in cities and downtown regions tend to enjoy entertaining others – hence this nice wine rack and wine glass holding system placed in one of our downtown lofts. Notice that it’s above the door archway – out of the way and not taking any additional “useable” space from the actual loft apartment itself. But it’s still a competely functional wine storage system for  entertaining and our many Victorian apartments and lofts all have such fun added touches included for our delighted tenants.

One of the nicest aspects about several of our apartments in downtown Kent are the surprisingly spacious outdoor decks and porches that are available with the rental property. Everyone loves an outdoor deck or porch – especially one that is on the second
level of the property so that it maintains its privacy throughout the year.  Our tenants over the years have been delighted to use
this particular outdoor deck just off of Water Street for sunbathing, outdoor dinners, slumber parties, yoga practice, reading, writing, growing plants and herbs – so many activities! 

As with all of our apartment rentals at KentSuites, there’s always a surprising or really enjoyable aspect of a particular loft or Victorian apartment that folks end up loving very much. Thanks to the weather treatments done to this deck as well as the recycled- wood flooring, this deck will be in-use and a real pleasure to many more tenants over the lifetime of this great building. Imagine Summer and Fall living with access to this great deck!

The photo above is of a large, mirrored, solar portal skylight in the hallway ascending to one of our loft apartments for rent in downtown Kent. It’s a nice little touch that took a bit of work to install (!) but we love it and so do all our tenants. Natural lighting is elegant, saves electricity and conserves energy, and is such an easy way to illuminate stairways and make the unseen more visible, don’t you think? 

Like this solar portal skylight, we have many interesting and eclectic elements that point to our love and commitment to sustainability throughout all our KentSuites units. We care about our college town and all the beautiful nature that surrounds it and we’re doing our part to collect rain water and plant flowers and trees and to use timers for light displays
as well as to use solar lighting and natural lighting where we can. It not only makes sense energy-wise and financially, but it helps to make all our rental units in downtown Kent unusual and one-of- a-kind – just like our charming and interesting tenants!

The passion to save history continues in this one of a kind unit!  We just can not stop returning tired old buildings to there once upon- a-time splendor.   This staircase is an example of craftsmanship that is from a bygone era.  As it spirals up to the second floor.  You can feel the beauty of the tree that once stood with a bending branch that was the making of this beautiful railing.  Its a testament to a bygone era where craft was at its best.  

You owe it to yourself to visit our units if for nothing else to experience a bit of history preserved in a way that hopefully will continue for another two hundred years.  This is true for all of KentSuites Vintage structures.  All are over 100 years old and still serving the community with character and pride.
